Getting into the Flow

Fri Sep 18, 2009, 10:38 AM
It's friday, I'm tired from the long week, andI have now completed my third week in college. I'm finally getting in the rhythm of day to day life here in Long Beach. Each day is so full and busy because of classes and track practice it sometimes feels a bit overwhelming. However, I know that I have people around me who are willing to help.
I certainly have a full load, but I like all of my classes and I am loving my one art class. Thank you athlete councilors for getting me into the impacted major class.... being an athlete in college is great, difficult, but the benefits outweigh the suffering :-) This is the first life drawing class on human anatomy I have ever taken. It's more intense than anything I've experienced in the art world so far. I love learning how see the skeletal form inside the model and sketch the structure with focusing on the center of gravity before drawing a complete figure.
Track practice is grueling. We have three hour practices every day (except weekends.... for now), six hours a week we have to spend in study hall, and my pole vault coach is planning on adding more after practices twice a week. One thing new that I think is amazing is "pool" vaulting. We go in a deep pool, someone holds a pole vault pole in the water, and the vaulter simulates the entire vault under water. You get water up your nose, but that's the only negative. We have pool workouts every friday.... don't be fooled though just because of the word "pool", these workouts in water are still exhausting. Then we go to the weight room three times a week. We haven't even started actually vaulting yet, this is just the six week conditioning before the REAL practices start. I know all this hard work will pay off when the season starts and I clear 12'6" :-)
Well, thats about all I have to say for now. I will try to update this more often.

yes, i dont think i've ever been there, and now i'm going to be selling pieces! :-) its a nervous excited... and a bit overwhelming, but i cant wait
:iconbmdsmith:
yeah it's fun to sell stuff. I know it's hard at first because we get connected to our artwork especially ones that we have achieved a certain step up or something. But from experience I can say that it feels so nice when someone buys your stuff, ESPECIALLY the paintings that you may not like as much... when people buy those it always feels good (at least to me) because that means even your bad work people are paying money for. But once you get past the first shock of selling paintings it is really easy to let them go. I know there will always be certain paintings that I will not show because I dont want to sell them but not that many. You will do well. I think we both will do well. (I'm praying anyways haha I could use some college money LOL)
